This is one of those loooooooong time local places in the entire State that has been around for soooooo long that even my grandparents know about. And one of them still lives at over 100 years old! I'm not on Kauai often, but whenever I'm here, Hamura Saimin is THE place to stop by and grind at least once. My family and I visited Kauai on a Big Isle/Kauai island-hopping trip this summer, and this place was the first meal we had on Kauai. Right after we arrived we picked up our car rental, drove from Lihue airport to this place (super close by!), and grinded till we could grind no more. Picture this. No a/c. Only ceiling fans and open jalousie windows. You are surrounded by people feasting on super hot bowls of delicious soup with ono noodles. And the 3 ladies there are working their butts off to give you some Ono local foods at a reasonable price in a reasonably fast time under THOSE conditions - all. day. long. 1 lady actually sits in front of a pot of boiling water to cook the saimin in THOSE working conditions. Yet, even under those conditions, the food we got that day was still super ono and I thought the service was very good. Perfect comfort food after a day of traveling across the island chain. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's a go-to place at least once to me. Old Hawaii, local style service and grindz, and at a reasonable price by Hawaii standards (its expensive to live here). And we didn't wait too long for that food to arrive. Just make sure to bring cash cause they are cash only!

Located in downtown Lihue off artsy Kress St. Saimin recipe made by the same family for over 50 years. Try any saimin or their lilikoi chiffon pie. Simple seating, pull up a wooden stool to any open table. Staff are efficient.

Good ol' local grinds! Cannot beat the taste! Very flavorful broth and the noodles are so tender. We can hardly ever find food the kids will eat and they ate their entire bowls! We like the diner ambiance as well. It brings it all together.
